Crazy Smackdown Highlights (Episode June 29, 2012)

One of the best Smackdown episodes I've seen. Well, to be fair, I haven't watched it for quite sometime, but it's probably one that I'm gonna remember for a long time.

NOTE: This is a spoiler, as seen in YouTube. I get it if you'd rather watch it on TV instead of watching or reading the results somewhere else. In case you don't want to read the results for the 29/06/2012 episode here, then just stop reading and move on to other stuff, capice? :D

The CrazyChick and the WWE Championship Match

The most watchable Diva right now, AJ, opens the show with a match against Diva's Champ Layla, who, I noticed, finally has her own new entrance theme - not sure when she started using the new theme though. Anyway, I guess AJ earns this match after eliminating Layla and winning the summertime diva's battle royale back in Raw Monday night. (Well, she eliminated Layla, then Vickie to win, but that's not the point.)

Long-story-short, Daniel Bryan shows up, distracting AJ who loses to Layla with a roll-up.
Daniel then gets in the ring and calls out interim GM Vickie Guerrero demanding that AJ be banned from ringside during his WWE Championship match against CM Punk. Before Vickie arrives though AJ and Daniel Bryan had a contest of Yes! chants. The WWE Universe was clearly behind AJ. :)

Vickie breaks the news that the WWE Board of Directors decided to follow the results of a poll posted in wwe.com a few days ago - what role will AJ perform in the upcoming championship match. To which 76% of the WWE Universe voted "guest referee"!!! With that, the deciding power in the WWE Championship match is now in the hands of the mentally-unstable-even-for-Kane, crazy-chick AJ.

AJ leaves the ring with a smile and chanting Yes! Yes! Yes! while doing her now-signature prancing back to the locker room. I guess her Yes chant, which she first used vigorously after winning the battle royale on Raw, is not an ode to D. Bryan... More like she owned Bryan with his own chant, basically stealing the Yes chant and made it her own. Will we now see AJ Yes Yes Yes! apparel in wweshop? Who knows... ;)

World Heavyweight Championship Money-in-the-Bank (MITB) Qualifiers

It was announced that while the MITB for WWE title is only for former champions (Cena, Kane, Jericho, Big Show), the MITB participants for World Heavyweight title will be decided tonight via qualifier matches. Tonight is the first round of these qualifying matches.

Damien Sandow def Zack Ryder (quite surprised they pushed Sandow for this one instead of Zack; I wonder what plans are in store for him...)

Tyson Kidd def Jack Swagger (nice push for Kidd; it's about time! Sorry, Swagger, just aint your week; or was it a month already? More than a month?)

US Champ Santino Marella & IC Champ Christian def David Otunga & Cody Rhodes (Well-timed spear flattens the body-builder Otunga for the 3. Both midcard champs qualify.)

Tensai def Justin Gabriel (Albert err Tensai squashed his way through, and the last one -- at least for this night - to qualify.)

Triple-Threat World Heavyweight Championship match (main event)

Back in Raw, after what appears to be a botched contract-on-a-pole match, Vickie (or more accurately, the Board of Directors) announced this triple threat title match main event for smackdown.

It's Alberto del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler vs champion Shaemus, with the current champion retaining the title via pinfall on Ziggler. I was actually rooting for Ziggler here. He was very impressive in his last few matches and I thought that maybe, just maybe with Vickie running the show, the showoff would derail the Great White. Oh well. Maybe next time...

Backstage Highlights

Kaitlyn and Daniel Bryan - after declaring AJ's new role, Daniel knocked on the Diva's locker room looking for AJ. Instead, it was Kaitlyn who emerged and told him AJ's not there. Nice to see Kaitlyn get some airtime. :)

Daniel finds AJ - later in the night, he finally runs into AJ who was in the middle of... well, I'm not really sure what she was doing; just talking to herself I guess, fantasizing about her role as guest referee. Anyway, he tries to butter up AJ trying to make amends, mentioning he was looking after her during her match earlier due to her viciousness against Layla. She just smiled and stared at him. He offered her the number of his doctor friend to help her with her, uh, mental condition. To this, she replied yes. Then yes, yes, yes Yes! And she prances away, leaving Bryan to his worries. It was at this point that I really think that the Yes chant is now AJ's signature.

Dolph and Vickie's argument - Dolph demanded Vickie to use her GM powers to tilt the title match that night to his favor. Vickie refused to do so, worried at how bad this will look from the Board of Directors. Their argument continues and finally exploded with a big slap from Vickie across the Show-Off's face. Reality set back in, and Dolph relented, wishing only Vickie would be there when he wins the title. Could this be the start of the fallout between the two?! If so, then it's about time! Time for him to break through on his own.

Teddy Long announced as GM next week -- much to the chagrin of Aksana and Antonio Cesaro, whom Teddy put in a mixed tag match next week in Smackdown (Live!) against Layla and the Great Khali.

Lowlights

Ryback's Squash matches continues - Ugh. Somebody give this guy an actual match. Destroying two local jobbers every week is getting really, really old really, really fast.
