Phoenix Five! - Avengers vs X-Men

The ongoing Marvel cross-over event culminated with the birth of the Phoenix Five in issue #5.

Phoenix Five rises...

The Phoenix Five: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Magik, and Colossus.

POTENTIAL SPOILER AHEAD.

Note that I have any intention of writing the whole story or summary here. I just liked the picture above. :D

In case you're wondering: Avengers and X-Men have been fighting over Hope Summers, the so-called Mutant Messiah and the supposed next host of the Phoenix Force. X-Men want Hope to be the host. Avengers don't. They fight, Hope escapes, X-Men and Avengers went out to search for her. They all end up on the blue-side of the moon, where the first host of the Phoenix Force, Jean Grey, was destroyed. Iron-Man's contraption did "something" to the Phoenix and somehow instead of bonding with Hope, it bonds with the five X-Men on the moon. Thus, Phoenix Five.

Pretty bad-ass cosmically-powered mutants, somehow reminiscent of five-man teams (Voltes V, Bioman, Voltron, some incarnations of the Power Rangers, etc.).

I think this is the most powerful version of these guys yet. Not that Colossus needed any more "upgrades". So he's a steel-skinned mutant, an unstoppable Avatar of Cyttorak (Juggernaut), and a cosmic Phoenix host. Geez! Talk about overkill...

  1. Personally I think the whole thing is a hoax. I think Scarlet Witch is behind everything. The story will twist just like it did in the House of M storyline years ago when everyone was led to believe Magneto was the direct cause.
