HATCHED: Food for the Disney Junior Preview lunch

Hatched was the venue for the Disney Junior preview last May 31st. It's at the Evans Lodge along Evans Road -- a little bit difficult getting there without your own car, as the nearest bus stop is a quite a way off.

It's a pretty small place which could accomodate around 30 people at a time. They're going for the old, rustic, farmhouse look and feel and they certainly achieved that. The yellow light bulbs remind us of the old yellow light bulbs you find around chicken houses used to warm newly hatched chicks. And all the furnishings -- the wooden tables, wooden stools, and the brick accent walls complete the farmhouse feel. Even the bar and display shelves have that simple, functional, farmhouse feel as well. Ah, the joys of farm living. :)

And now, let's go to the menu. Here's what we had:

They were kind enough to provide us with the menu:
  • Starter: Mini-omelette with Mushroom Ragout
  • Main Course: Choice of
    • Baked Dory served with Risotto Cakes and Carrot Puree
    • Cordon Bleu served with Garlic Roasted Mash
  • Dessert: Waffles served with Mixed Fruit Compote & Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Free flow of Coffee, Tea, Softdrinks (Coke or Sprite)

The mini-omelette was anything but mini! It's actually quite a large portion and the mushroom filling goodness is just ooooh-oozing out. It's a little salty with a hint of that crushed black pepper kick. :) I'm pretty sure the mushroom lovers (like yours truly) are gonna love it.

For the main course, you had to go either with the chicken or the fish. There were two of us, so yipee! :) The fish course was a slice of baked dory served on top of some greens and risotto cake, all sprinkled with crushed pepper (or other spices I can't tell, but I'm pretty sure that's freshly crushed pepper) and there's carrot puree on the side -- reminds me of Riley's carrot puree we give him every now and then. :) That's a nice healthy meal for you there! Not sure where the egg is though. The chicken course is cordon bleu on top of garlic roasted mash with some greens on the side as well. Both courses were wonderful. though I would think the cordon bleu with be much more filling than the fish course.

For dessert, we had vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup served on top of waffles and some mixed fruit compote on the side. The compote has a citrusy syrup and composed mostly of peaches, grapes, cherries and blueberries (I think). The ice cream is just the plain vanilla ice cream but the strawberry just adds that much needed flavor. The waffles are great as well. I would have wanted the waffles to be a little bit crunchier (like the AM meals in KFC), but that's just me. It tastes good nonetheless. :)

Well, that's all. Overall, it was a good casual dining experience. We certainly had our fill. More questions about Hatched, just refer to contact details below:
